The Tuesday Rally

While the S&P 500 has performed poorly over the past few months, the damage hasn’t been spread evenly by day of the week.

The worst day has been Mondays, and Tuesdays are the big winners. In fact, if you had been in the market on Tuesdays alone, you’d be up nearly 12% over the last 23 weeks. The rest of the time, the market has been down sharply.

What’s going on? I think the political nature of the recent troubles has caused the market to suffer badly on Mondays due to whatever news was held until the weekend. Then on Tuesdays, the markets have staged a small relief rally only to lose it all during the rest of the week.
